Description

Situated at the upper reaches of the Yellow River and in the northwest part of the country, Gansu is the province where the Inner Mongolian Plateau and the Qinhai-Tibet Plateau meet. At the end of 1986, the population was 20.71 million. The level of economic development was low. In 1986, the gross output value in industry and agriculture was 20.04 billion yuan. Contribution to the national income was 11.71 billion yuan, and per capita income was 570 yuan.
