Description

Situated in the lower reaches of the Yellow River and along the coast of the East China Sea, Shandong Province is one of the provinces with high population density. At the end of 1986, the population was 78.18 million. The superior natural environment, with abundant marine resources, and large deposits of oil, coal, gold, etc., and convenient transport, make Shandong one of the important agricultural centres and comprehensive energy resource bases of China. In 1986, the gross output value in industry and agriculture was 99.87 billion yuan. Contribution to the national income was 59.58 billion yuan, and per capita income was 770 yuan.
