Princeton European Fertility Project:
List of Countries in Master File
Princeton European Fertility Project:
List of Countries in Master File
The following list shows all of the countries contained in the
Master Data file, as well as an explanation of the differences
between series. It also shows the total number of areas included in
each country (or series), as well as the total number of data years
for each area, the time span covered, whether there is an urban/rural
breakdown, and the people responsible for preparing the data.
Although Roy Treadway's name appears in only a few places, he played
a major role in the preparation of the data. He combined data in
many different formats, supervised the calculation of indices needed
to fill in gaps (especially those needed to bring the data forward to
approximately 1960) and prepared the documentation.
For every country, the first area (area number 0) represents the
entire country. This "total area" is included in the count of areas
in the following list. A few countries in the following list are not subdivided into
areas: Luxemburg, Albania, and Iceland. These still have a total
area (area 0) and one regional area (area 1), which are
identical.
The names given in the list are exactly as they appear in the
data. The number preceding the country name is the country code
found in columns 1-2 of both the Master File and the Thirty-Year
File.
