Professor of Sociology and Public Affairs. Ph.D., Sociology, Princeton University, 1978. Interests: demography, urban sociology, race and ethnicity, international migration, Latin American society, particularly Mexico.

Recent Activities

Doug Massey is a member of the National Academy
of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and
Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society. He is
the current president of the American Academy of
Political and Social Science. He is a member of the
Committee on National Statistics of the National
Research Council and the Immigration Advisory Board
of the Russell Sage Foundation and is co-editor of the
Annual Review of Sociology. He currently serves as
Director of Graduate Studies in the Woodrow Wilson
School. Masseys research focuses on international
migration, race and housing, discrimination, education,
urban poverty, stratification, and Latin America,
especially Mexico. He is the author, most recently, of
Strangers in a Strange Land: Humans in an Urbanizing
World
(W.W. Norton 2005) and editor of New Faces in
New Places: The Changing Geography of American
Immigration
(Russell Sage, forthcoming).
